Detection Analyst

Overall Job Purpose

Majorel is seeking discerning individuals plugged into internet technologies at the intersection of crisis, geopolitical and user harm problems.  You will be a thought leader on a team working at the leading edge of detecting fast-developing issues such as man-made disasters, the spread of misinformation, privacy and security, hate and harassment, and potential breaches in election integrity. 

As a Detection Analyst you will be an expert in Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) Collection methods and tradecraft, and help drive the team’s ability to detect new abuse trends that may affect users.

• Responsible for evaluating online social media, web page content, and advertising content in conjunction with client policy 

• Visually navigate and review images, videos, accounts and text-based content 

• Escalate violations of client policies using internal tools

• Establish deep familiarity with the client’s dynamic, fast-changing Intel requirements; serve as a thought leader on the team helping to bridge fast-changing client requirements with ongoing OSINT detection work. 

• Maintain deep expertise in Open Source Intelligence Collection methods, tools, and strategies. Ensure OSINT tools and methods are appropriately calibrated to respond to client’s rapidly changing collection requirements. 

• Working with the client, pilot new OSINT sources, methods, tools, and processes; provide the clients with reports on results. 

• Working with client representatives, help develop new methods for quantifying detection requirements, identify collection gaps, and pilot new strategies to address these gaps.  

• Working with Team Leads, help with overall program quality assurance measurements & identify areas for improvements. 

• Share expertise with teammates. 

• Maintain a high level of quality for all results. 

• Balance priorities of daily workflow tasks in line with client needs

• Participate in client meetings to discuss findings and make on-going recommendations

• You may be required from time to time to support different workflows/products/markets depending on business need.

• Previous experience in Detection is required

• Fluency in written and spoken English plus another European language

• Ability to use translation tools or close collaboration with teammates to develop OSINT sources and tooling solutions for languages in which the specialist is not fluent

• BA/BS degree  (Political Science, Journalism, Digital Media, History, Security Studies, Data Analysis, or related field is preferred)

• 2+ years in abuse fighting/content moderation/online safety/User Trust (or related experience) is required 

• Knowledge, education, or experience with Open source Intel gathering,  Social media monitoring, or OSINT detection tools is required. 

• Broad knowledge and/or interest in of current  national and international political, historical and social news 

• Intermediate I.T skills with the ability to quickly learn new tools.

• Understanding of international and geopolitical events and how they may impact a global company

• Experience with or willingness to learn SQL, dashboard creation, dataset cleanup, creating tables or similar tech is preferred. 

• Proven track record of an investigative, data-driven approach to answering complex questions

• Strong interest in internet, culture, news media and current trending events

• Familiarity with Internet technologies and related policy and regulatory environments a plus

• Customer service/client experience preferred.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), with a proven ability to work successfully with cross-functional teams with senior stakeholder and executive visibility.

• Polished ability to present findings or deliver briefings to clients and stakeholders. 

• Comfortable with reviewing internet content that may be deemed sensitive, inappropriate and/or contain explicit material

• Calm under pressure, with an ability to function well in urgent, developing situations.

• Experience and Interest in navigating internet websites including social media, commercial websites etc. 

• Proven ability to deliver highest quality results while paying strict attention to detail, juggling multiple projects at once.
